Same Day Dental Crowns in Mahopac

What are same-day dental crowns?

Same-day dental crowns allow dentists to protect and restore damaged teeth in a single appointment. They are most often used to restore teeth that have been broken or cracked by an oral injury, or to treat a cavity that is too deep to restore with a filling. Restoring a damaged tooth with a same-day crown, like CEREC or PlanScan, helps prevent complications that can occur with temporaries or multiple appointments, and gives you a permanent dental solution quickly. Patients facing busy schedules or a dental emergency may greatly benefit from same-day crowns.

How it works: The same-day dental crown treatment process

_

Exam & Prep

To begin, your dentist in Mahopac will examine and prepare your tooth to create a stable base for your new crown.

Digital Impressions

Your dentist will use a hand-held intraoral scanner to scan the inside of your mouth. This scanner creates a 3D digital image of your mouth and your teeth.

Milling The Crown

The scans are converted into digital impressions that your dentist uses to mill your same-day crown, right in the office.

Fit Inspection & Adjustments

Once the crown is ready, and your dentist has cleaned and prepared your tooth, the crown will be checked for fit and adjustments will be made, if necessary.

Permanent Crown Placement

After final adjustments, your dentist will use a powerful dental cement to bond your crown into place permanently, restoring your smile and your bite.

Same-day treatment

Our advanced CAD/CAM technology crafts crowns in minutes. Plus, the entire procedure usually only takes 1-2 hours from start to finish. Same-day treatment saves the patient time and expense of multiple trips to the dentist’s office. And receiving treatment same-day is a great solution in emergency situations or for those with busy schedules.

No Temporary Crowns Necessary

Skip the awkward temporary caps. With same-day crowns, there’s no need to deal with ill-fitting temporary caps as you wait for a lab to manufacture your permanent crown. One crown is made and placement is done the same day. CEREC, PlanScan, and other CAM/CAD technologies and software create custom crowns to match your tooth perfectly, so you can walk away with a comfortable, beautiful, and durable crown the same day you walk in for treatment.

Full Digital Process

Using an intraoral scanner, your doctor will take digital impressions of your teeth before preparing your tooth for treatment. These scans are sent to the in-office milling machine, which produces your same-day crown. At no point are messy impressions necessary to achieve a beautiful, custom-made same-day crown.

What issues can a same-day crown treat?

Most commonly, same-day crowns are used to protect and restore teeth that have been damaged by a serious cavity, or that have been cracked or broken by dental trauma, like an accident or injury. Because same-day crowns cover up and protect your entire tooth structure, they are ideal for preventing further complications and restoring the shape, appearance, and function of damaged teeth.

Same-day crowns are also used to cover up and protect teeth after root canal treatment. In more rare cases, they may also be used for cosmetic dentistry if other treatments like veneers and dental bonding are not appropriate.

How do I know if I need a same-day crown?

If you have a damaged or severely decayed tooth, or are in need of emergency care, you may need a same-day crown. You should see your dentist if you are experiencing tooth pain and discomfort, or if your teeth are visibly damaged or discolored. Depending on the cause of your dental issues, they may recommend a same-day crown or another restorative treatment.

How long do same-day crowns last?

A well-made and properly placed same-day crown can last up to 15 years. It’s critical to maintain good oral health habits to enhance your crown’s longevity. These practices include brushing twice per day, flossing once per day, and seeing your dentist every 6 months for a professional cleaning and exam.

How do I care for my same-day crown?

You can treat your same-day crown just like a natural tooth. Make sure you brush twice a day for at least two minutes, ensuring you scrub the full surface of every tooth. You should floss at least once per day, preferably at night. This should only take a few minutes, but be sure to floss against the tooth and below the gum line. You should also see your dentist every six months for a check-up to make sure that your dental work and teeth are healthy.

Are same-day dental crowns covered by insurance?

Same-day dental crowns that are required for restorative purposes, such as severe cavities or a broken tooth, are typically covered by insurance. The exact amount of coverage you receive will depend on the deductible and yearly limits of your policy.

If you require a crown for cosmetic purposes, such as covering up a discolored tooth, the procedure may not be covered by insurance. To make sure your procedure is covered, we recommend consulting with your insurer.

Can I get same-day crowns on my front teeth?

Yes! A same-day crown will cover any visible discoloration or chips on your tooth. This coverage is especially beneficial in the case of highly-visible front teeth. Your dentist will match it to the color of your other teeth so it fits in with the rest of your smile.
